coldzera: Put more hours in the game [after EPL]
Shortly after his team lifted the DreamHack Open Summer trophy, we talked to the MVP of the tournament Marcelo "coldzera" David about his individual game, the grand final and finally defeating fnatic.
Marcelo "coldzera" David has once again been awarded the HLTV.org MVP award after picking the medal up in SK's victories at cs_summit and IEM Sydney.
After the ceremony, coldzera talked about SK's struggle against Dennis "dennis" Edman's aggressive play on Overpass, their Inferno and working on his own game.
This is the third tournament in a short span of time that your team has won an event and you have got the MVP; cs_summit, IEM Sydney and now DreamHack Open Summer. How does it feel?
It feels really good. At Pro League I played really bad so I've been dedicated more to my personal training. I practice more, I saw my mistakes at ESL Pro League so I focused on my game more, and now I'm back, so it's good.
What were your biggest issues, what did you focus on in the past few weeks?
I saw that a lot of my positions were off and I had bad plays in my bombsites. So I created more plays for myself and created more setups with my teammates on bombsites. I also played more deathmatch and put more hours into the game because... I traveled to Brazil so before Pro League I practiced for like 5 days. That's not too much when you play professionally. And I played really bad there, in Dallas. For this tournament, I've played a lot of CS for two, three weeks, a lot of CS every day. So I was better, but I keep growing.
Talking about the match against fnatic in the final, I think in some post-match interview JW said that they were the best team on Inferno - what do you have to say about that?
We don't have problems playing inferno against fnatic. They play really passive so we know how to control the map when we are on the T side. And on CT side, we play our default and don't overpeek. I think fnatic is good on Inferno when they have a kill on the map. But when they don't have kills, sometimes they are lost. For us, we just wait, they push... We won easy rounds and had 3-4 mistakes on CT side, but our CT is still good. Our T side... we don't have problems.
The next map was Overpass and there they had a total stomp. What went wrong?
We don't know how to play against them [on Overpass]. dennis plays too aggressive, we tried to counter him but he won all the duels. So it was hard for us to kill him. We tried to go B because it was impossible to have control towards A because of dennis. They punished us a lot. But when we tried to go B we never got a good entry on that site. And whenever we try to do something they were pushing and they broke our hold. They played really aggressive and we need to fix [our play against that style].
Lastly, this is the first BO3 you won against fnatic, even though it was mostly due to them not getting far while you had the whole period of dominance. So is there anything special with this win you got now?
Yeah, because it is a revenge win. In the past they played really good and we were too scared to play against them because they were the best team in the world. But now, I think it changed. Now they play scared against us, that's why we had more control of the game.
