GAME announce 19,000+€ league

A month after ESL announced ESL Masters Spain, GAME has announced its own league, called GAME Stadium, with a prize pool of 19,000€ plus per match bonuses.

After having acquired SocialNat, one of the three main tournament organizers in Spain with LVP and ESL, GAME—the biggest video game and console retailer in Spain—has been injecting money (45,000€ in prizes for CS:GO last year split between two LANs) and trying to raise CS’s profile in a country where League of Legends is king. Now, GAME has launched its first season of the year for ten of the best teams in the region to compete in.

When compared to ESL Masters Spain, the biggest difference in GAME Stadium is the inclusion of two Portuguese teams which expands the competition from Spain to the whole Iberian Peninsula.

MUTiRiS's k1ck will play in GAME's league

The league will start with an online portion in which all ten teams will face each other once in best-of-ones, with three matches to be played on Wednesdays and two matches to be played on Thursdays during nine match days. The regular season will start on May 3 and end on June 29, and will be broadcast on GAME’s twitch channel.

During the regular season, teams will be awarded 150€ and three points per win, with a 50€ bonus if they win by 10 or more rounds. Also, if a team wins by 10 or more rounds they will get +.5 points in the standings while the team that loses will have .5 points deducted.

After the regular season, four teams will qualify for a playoff which will be played offline during the first half of July. There, the qualified teams will compete for the lion’s share of the prize pool which is 6,000€. Meanwhile, the last team in the table will be relegated and the team placed in ninth position will face the runner-up from GAME’s open league in a relegation match.

The teams which will be competing in GAME Stadium:

Spain KPI Spain G2V Portugal k1ck Spain EU4IA Spain x6tence
Europe Movistar Riders Portugal AlienTech Spain Arctic Spain AIE Spain PAM

The prize distribution, without the 150/200€ win bonuses:

1. - 6,000€
2. - 4,000€
3-4. - 2,000€
5-9. - 1,000€

shack and emenk are Spanish citizens, living in Spain, although they come from Slovakia. GAME doesn't have a 3 national player rule so they will play with derciak (afaik) as 5th instead of exerz, the Spanish player who plays with them in ESL Masters Spain and other national leagues and tournaments with the 3 national player rule.

off topic of your conversation. HLTV choosed mutiris as a highlight because he's the most known player of this league, right?

I chose him to highlight that it is not only a Spanish league as there are Portuguese teams as well.

not that sure bro, k1ck are too strong in the moment, but yeah, they're better on lan than online, so, i don't know...but k1ck it's on a great form, winning of tier2 teams like hellraisers on their trains. They will have Space Soldiers on 4gamers event too, and i believe they can win, let's see what happen. Best of luck to all ;)

Yeah it's confusing, idk why HLTV insists on calling them just G2 At least call them G2.es like in Liquipedia or something
2017-04-27 18:01

We don't use title sponsors in team names unless the team is owned by the sponsor (e.g.: Movistar Riders). Idk how it's confusing when you have a Spanish flag in front of the team name and you can roll over to get a dropdown with the lineup.

You had k1ck.es, why not G2.es? If G2 Vodafone qualify to an event and the article is for example "G2 qualify for Dreamhack Valencia" or "G2 invited to xfunction Gaming Festival" (This article would just have a PT flag) in my opinion that would lead to unnecesary confusion.
2017-04-27 18:50

Yeah, that's true, and I agree. I would make .es if it were up to me, but to say that it's confusing in this context...

I didn't mean that this article in particular was confusing or misleading (it's not), but I have seen a lot of comments in the G2 Vodafone announcement article, and a few in this one, saying that they were confused. I also understand the reason why title sponsors are not allowed, no one wants "Na'Vi.G2A" and stuff. I however think that in this case it should be discussed.

G2 line-up sucks, they are not even near the favorites skill-wise: x6tence, k1ck, KPI and maybe Movistar riders (only saw one game and they have good aim but their strats kinda suck)
