ESL comments on VAC ban policy

ESL has issued a statement to shed some light on the recent changes to its policy regarding VAC bans on a professional level.

HLTV.org revealed on Thursday that ESL had decided to allow VAC-banned players to compete in the Pro League and at ESL One and IEM events, provided that at least two years have passed since the ban was issued.

VAC-banned players will be able to compete at ESL One events after two years

In a Twitlonger post, ESL explains that the change aims to "create consistency for all future bans across all platforms throughout CSGO", adding that players caught by its own anti-cheat technology (ESL Wire) have always been banned from its competitions for a period of two years.

"So that VAC bans can also be included in this consistent overall framework, we therefore recently updated our competitive rulebook to bring our treatment of them in line with these policies," ESL adds.

ESL has also reacted to accusations about adopting double standards in the disciplinary measures taken against VAC-banned players in comparison to players involved in match-fixing cases.

The Germany-based company acknowledges that implementing "consistent and meaningful punishment for integrity violations" remains an "extremely complex and multifaceted" issue, but stresses that it will sit down with relevant parties to review this topic.

"We will consult with players, teams, organizations and sports integrity experts such as ESIC on whether the existing policies are still adequate for professional play in Counter-Strike," ESL notes.

at 10 years old (in the uk - probably similar in other countries) you are expected to be of legal mind, meaning if you break the law, the whole "I didn't know it was illegal" bullshit is no longer valid, and you will go through the law system accordingly like anyone else should you be prosecuted.

2017-03-24 11:24
the "always a chance to lose" argument is ridiculous... the point of betting is that there are two ways(or more) for the bet to go. in the case of IBP, they removed the chance for people to WIN by fixing the game and that's unacceptable. they just let betting companies and skin betting sites take money from people for their personal gain.. it's totally immoral - same as cheating.

I'd deffo want to see ibp back instead of banned hackers. It was just 1 match that was hardly meaningful, and the first of its kind. Imo its a bit harsh to give a lifetime ban over something that has no rules set. Cheating is basically the same as throwing multiple matches since you're effecting the outcome of the matches in an illegitimate way. But yeah, I guess they're just trying to make it as any other sport now that is grown so big.. Like you dont get lifetime ban after caught from doping.
2017-03-24 02:43

*every match they cheat in. Its basically the opposite of throwing and anyone throwing or cheating should punished equally. Back in iBP/Epsilon days there wasn't a rule against it, so they shouldn't suffer a tougher punishment from those who actually broke rules. I've seen people say that IRL people who cheat in sports are only banned for a few years too (because thats justification apparently) but then IRL sports only fine players for throwing games and VERY occasionally ban them for a short time.

Match fixing wasn't created in this scene, arguing that there were no rules against it is srsly biased. There were spots players who got suspended jail sentences. Same happened in other esports (sc comes to mind instantly). This guys got it easy if you look at the big picture. Sure they can't play tournaments, yet they managed to kept their stream's viewbase (swag and steel), get caster spots (dazed), and start a new career at a different game with no penalty (AZK) etc. Cheating is worse tho, and this new rules are a spit on the face of every legit player.

I think that wouldn't happen. If it actually happens, there will be only a few. Look, 2 years for now is a really long time, alright? If these semipros are cheating their way for easy cash, they can only do it maybe twice. CSGO is dying, ok? Their fanbase is not increasing anymore. It is only about time. If they actually planned to do things as you say, when they come back not many will ever look at CSGO anymore. Besides, if you caught VAC banned, there is no team that wait for your ban to expire. Same as KQLY's incident. Even though he will come back, no team will take him. Causing you a lot of trouble and difficulty climbing that "semipros" again.

Also Valve, please stop with operations, updates, patches etc, just give "us" skins cus we also buy that shit and then complain cus we are retards but at least you earn money
2017-03-24 08:41
I think match fixing is illegal by law in most countries, so stating there's no rule set is just wrong. The boys who did this, surely knew it was wrong. They just thought they could use their position to "earn" some easy money without getting caught. With this being said, I don't think matchfixing should be punished harder than cheating.
2017-03-24 12:36

Ofcourse it is, but I think usually the consequenses are mostly legal too and not inside the sport. I guess everyone in ibp would've preferred even a very large fine over a lifetime ban.

They surely would have.... And maybe it would be more suitable with a large fine and a two year ban.... I don't know...

throwers who threw before there were rules in place against it aren't nearly as bad as cheaters who were so bad they got caught by VAC. (Also cheating has always been against the rules, so players who cheated knew that they were doing not only something morally wrong, but also breaking the rules) I'd want brax, steel, dazed & fxy0 back in the csgo

KQLY returning to the CSGO scene after being CAUGHT using hacks is such a strong message to upcoming youngsters, yep you are a hundred percent right. Either allow them all to play or neither. IBP got a lifetime ban for doing something that wasn't even punishable yet! As KQLY said there's a 0.1% chance he'll return, well if Braxton got the chance he'll be back 100%. These 4 guys, azk Steel Dazed and Brax, deserve a second chance as much as (if not more) the 2 year VAC'ed ones.

I hope this is a second chance policy rather than a situation where they can come back after 2 years each time, I would like to see it enforced so that after your first offense it is a 2 year ban but if you get caught again it would become lifetime. This in my opinion seems the most fair way to do it.
2017-03-24 04:43
And with that, ESL confirms cheating is less critical than match fixing, lmao.

If you're not going to un-ban the players that were caught match-fixing then don't bother un-banning the cheaters. Honestly the people who lost money on IBP were probably underage and shouldn't have been gambling in the first place. They learn't a valuable lesson that day and I guess you could say the IBP team learn't one aswell.

Yes but there are players like dream3r who never cheated in a pro game and were banned, this rule has its bad and good sides like a pro player who cheated whilst being a pro should never be unbanned, but ppl who cheated 3 years ago in matchmaking or casual shouldn't get them a lifetime ban

Kind of a fucking joke tbh. This would encourage pro's to cheat. Why? Cuz even if they get caught they can compete again after 2 years, but whatever they make before they get vac banned stays in their bank account. Fucking bullshit. This game is a fucking joke and ESL is even bigger. Fuck this, not watching anymore games again.

I think cheating using 3rd party software is worse than the ibp matchfix. Shitter teams that were making it onto csgol back before it was closed were clearly fucking throwing for skins and i bet they made a metric fuck load more than ibp did... yes tell my why a tier 7 Asian team is on csgol and loses to a substantially worse team by playing like fucking retards, ye coz thats not a throw. Valve are so separated from the pro community, the entire fucking community want ibp unbanned... we literally forgave them and they've done their absolute best to stay in the CS scene coz they love it... Dazed is even casting coz he likes the game that much lol. ESL should at least use their brain here, for their public imagine allowing ibp players to compete would be huge. Even if it's just for fucking pro league lol.

The reason Americans want to unban IBR is that well, in unofficial mix-matches swag, azn, and definitely dazed are kicking C9 and Optics players butt so hard. It was really a shame for United States to lose IBR.. As they were one if not the strongest team in their Country. I also like out of the 14 Pro League ESL Team in NA en.pro.eslgaming.com/csgo/proleague/team.. 3 are Brazilian 2 are Australians One is Canada/Britain - Completexity And the rest 8 teams all got one or two guys from another country.. =) BUt we all know AMERICANS LOOOVE IMMIGRANTS :D

2017-03-24 12:08
You cheated when you were 16 years old in a MM game and got a vac ban = lifetime ban for professional CS:GO You cheated on stage in a 250.000 final and get banned by ESL wire/ESEA/Faceit. You can play next week in the Major by another company. ESL unifies the punishment for cheating no matter which AC caught people. It was alway stupid that VAC bans lifetimebanned you while FaceIT, ESL Wire or ESEA AC bans did not, ESEA caught people were only banned for 1 year and thats it. You can now argue that it should be a unified lifetime ban or that matchfixers should be unbanned, but it doesnt change the fact, that the unification of cheating punishment is not a bad thing. And that ESL is a company that actually employes and IBP player and pays him money.

reddit.com/r/GlobalOffensive/comments/2n.. Im not sure thought... KQLY says he tried it.. I actually "done" what is described in his statement. I tried cheat. I bought it from ehm Aimware. I got a little exe file that I launched before playing.. Using it I could wallhack/use aimbot without any problems on MM matches.. I didn't tried it on Faceit or ESEA but on MM it really opened my eyes how easy anyone there can have a cheat on and activate it with a single key-stroke. Edit: Aimware also include something called "soft-aim" ... Which means, your aim automatically at the enemy when they pop up on your screen. It was actually even for ME.. cheating you KNOW.. using the AIMhax it was difficult to spot the difference how my mouse cursor moved to to the enemy. So yeah, MM is totally impossible to play now. A video of AIMWARE: youtube.com/watch?v=_cxkud5ZVCk

"We will consult with players, teams, organizations and sports integrity experts such as ESIC on whether the existing policies are still adequate for professional play in Counter-Strike," PogChamp #FreeIBP

If you play professionally and get caught cheating you should receive a life time ban, imo. I feel like ESL neither Valve takes cheating seriously, so why would any potential cheater do so.

I would give them all fixers and cheaters a second chance but I'd always give it to matchfixers first. Anyone who cares about the game can see that matchfixing is a money thing and cheating is ruining the game, not just one match but the whole game. Allowing cheaters before fixers shows no love for the game, only love for money, no humanity.

I find it funny that iBP got banned for match fixing for skins. Yet skin betting is actually illegal in the US, and has been for quite sometime along with online gambling. So they got banned for something that people shouldn't of been doing anyways. And then they can't get unbanned, but players who actually cheated can. I get people are butthurt because they lost skins, your lost though. You were basically doing something illegal anyways. Just funny that's all. I think they should get unbanned. No reason match fixing should even be a thing, as players should not be allowed to bet period.

I really don't think you deserve a second chance. Actually, i think you should get jail time if you cheat at professional level, no matter the sport. "I was stupid" or "i didn't consider the consequences" are no excuses. So many peole are affected, teammates, the whole organisation, investors, sponsors, fans etc. One fuckhead like KQLY can ruin peoples lifes. What comes to IBP, in this case - they totally should be unbanned. Wth, just legalize cheating
