ESL One & EPL VAC rules changed

ESL has introduced changes to its rules related to VAC banned players and will now bar players from competing in its standalone tournaments only if the ban has happened in the past two years.

The rule, which was formerly used in lower tier ESL and ESEA competitions such as ESEA Premier (where we saw Simeon "⁠dream3r⁠" Ganev compete and ultimately win the Global Challenge LAN), will now be added to ESL's top tier competitions: IEM, ESL One and ESL Pro League from Season 6.

Players such as KQLY will now be able to compete in ESL events

The new rule, which will debut at IEM Sydney, can be found in the IEM Season 12 rulebook under "2.5 Publisher or ESIC Bans":

"CSGO VAC bans are specifically honored, but only until 2 years after they have been issued."

After reaching out to ESL, the tournament organizer has confirmed that the same rule will be used at future IEM and ESL One tournaments, as well as in Pro League from next season. The only exception to the rule will still be Valve-supported tournaments, such as the Majors.

This now means that players like Joel "⁠emilio⁠" Mako, dream3r, Hovik "⁠KQLY⁠" Tovmassian, Gordon "⁠Sf⁠" Giry and Anil "⁠cLy⁠" Gülec will get another chance to compete at the highest level of CS. Players who have been banned for match-fixing do not fall under this rule, however, and will remain suspended indefinitely.

dont think sports logic apllies here. imo cheating in cs is much worse than cheating in football for example. while using doping does give you an advantage it can never outclass your natural habilites (dont know if i made myself clear here). on the other hand using wh or aimbot will give you an edge on skills you wouldnt possess by your own not only that but when youre cheating in fps youre basically taking control of a lot of variables while in sports doping will only favor the physical side of stuff, not the technical one (which in football or basketball holds the same or even more importance) tldr: esports arent comparable to real sports when it comes to sanctions

When you think about it, it's actually quite idiotic that ESL decides to take this stance and at the same time do not forgive match fixers for their mistake. They're delusional if they think that some of these VAC-banned people have not made a profit from their cheats, especially in the (semi)pro scene. It's so fucking unfair for the players who matchfixed, cheating was always illegal and it was pretty clear in all the official rulesbook from all the tournaments. So if you get caught cheating, it's your fucking problem, enjoy being banned, you know what you were risking. Whereas matchfixing, nothing was set yet. Bit of sense guys cmon. KQLY for instance was never proven to have cheated in any league or tournament. FACT VAC ban is account based and could truly have been a couple of times for a laugh without considering the account based possible future consequences From an IT security perspective, I agree with this move. Stopping players cheating on LAN where the actual money is, is not rocket science. Seriously, it just ISN'T ! Even if your LAN allows players to set up their PC on practice day, with full admin privileges, proper policies following the drive imaging process along with in tournament policies are enough. You can eliminate any possibility of cheating. It isn't hard, and almost everyone here does not understand that. HOWEVER ! Feel free to witchhunt if the following happens, I am all for that; Player is amazing in league/qualifier online and carries team to LAN, with very suspicious playstyle. Player then sucks nads on LAN and looks different in that regard. Additionally, if said player is later VAC banned, severe consequences should come to both them and team - e.g fined all winnings with player plus more, and player permbanned.

If you don't want to lose skins or money, don't bet. And who told you they would have 100% win without their bets on the opponent team? If they would have win, how many people would have lost their money because of Epsilon winning? They got 1 year ban for that, and it's totally understandable. But they got a new "perma" ban out of nowhere one day after the end of the first ban, for no good reason.
