VP win DreamHack Masters Las Vegas

Virtus.pro win DreamHack Masters Las Vegas with a 2-1 victory over SK (8-16 Cobblestone, 16-11 Train, 16-13 Mirage)!

The grand final of DreamHack Masters Las Vegas kicked off on Virtus.pro's comfort pick, Cobblestone, as the Polish side picked up another pistol round starting on the CT side. However, the anti-eco rounds have been a struggle for Filip "NEO" Kubski and co. and it proved to be a problem on Cobblestone once again as they were unable to secure the following round.

After the Brazilian side took over the lead, Janusz "Snax" Pogorzelski and Wiktor "TaZ" Wojtas combined to clutch a 2v3 retake on B, but they once again struggled to string rounds together, losing a round to a low-buy SK shortly after to make it 5-4. Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo got an spectacular AWP pick on Jarosław "pashaBiceps" Jarząbkowski through a smoke and a wall to set his team up for another well executed B push and SK furthered their lead on the Terrorist side of Cobblestone.

It was 9-4 before SK stopped abusing B and finally hit A, trading Snax effectively and getting another round on the board, but the Polish star replied in the following round with a beautiful AWP 4k on B to finish the half 10-5.

The second half started great for SK, with Fernando "fer" Alvarenga pushing mid to flank Virtus.pro's B site pistol offensive, picking up two kills for his efforts. As their force buy attempts were unsuccsessful, Cobblestone was quickly out of Virtus.pro's hands and SK closed out the map 16-8—before the plow could be fully activated.

Pasha wasn't able to keep up his form from eariler in the tournament

Virtus.pro continued their trend of starting CT, winning the pistol and then losing the following round on SK's pick, Train. fallen's side cleaned up the anti-eco's and went up 3-1 off the back of that before they reset the economy of Virtus.pro by losing a close round and winning the subsequent one.

The Poles tied the score 6-6 thanks to some vintage play from Snax who was shutting down everyone trying to approach A, and with the economy finally going their way, the Poles took over the lead and finished the CT half 9-6 up.

The second pistol round went the way of SK and they tied the score 9-9, but only shortly, as Virtus.pro took the lead starting with the following gun round.

With the score 10-9, SK took down both Terrorist players in a 2v2 on B, but Snax's molotov denied the defuse and forced the Brazilians to eco. That small break was enough for Virtus.pro to take over the map and close it out 16-11 in the end.

SK couldn't close out Mirage in the end

Another CT start and pistol round for Virtus.pro followed on Mirage, but the Polish squad finally managed to follow that round up with a clean anti-eco win. Marcelo "coldzera" David showed up in the first buy round with four kills to get SK on board, but his team was reset in the following one—courtesy of two crucial AWP picks from Snax.

João "felps" Vasconcellos continued to make his signature Mirage plays, putting pressure on the window room area and causing problems for the Virtus.pro. In round nine, he found the right timing and backstabbed the B site defenders as SK gained momentum on the Terrorist side. From 6-2 down, the Brazilians got to an 8-7 lead before the end of the first half with the slow, mid-control default being their weapon of choice.

The pistol round and the UMP and Tec-9 force-buy both went the way of SK as they went 11-7 up on the CT side. Virtus.pro secured a single gun round, the teams traded a few back in forth but it was the Poles to grab the momentum and tie the score 12-12.

SK had an opportunity to get the control of the match back, but TaZ's 1v2 clutch that made it 13-13 and break the economy of FalleN's team. From that point onwards, Virtus.pro powered on and closed Mirage out 16-13 to win the series 2-1 and take the title at DreamHack Masters Las Vegas 2017!

Key Moment: On the final map of the series, 13-12 down, TaZ clutched a 1v2 that looked unwinnable for the Poles and broke SK's economy, allowing his team to close out the map, series—and the tournament.

PotM: In a tight competition, Filip "NEO" Kubski takes the PotM award due to his exceptional play on the final map, that was the tightest of the three, as well as high impact which could be seen through his first kill differential.

no usually the way it goes down is like that, a team picks a map and the other team gets to pick the side and knife round for decider, in this series VP got to pick the side in all of the maps.

My argument is, that if SK truly is the better team, then they would be able to win on their best side of their map. Or rather, they should be able to be competitive on both sides of their map, regardless of whether they get to choose or not.

<3 FuckSK i see how you're not biased at all, i wonder if it was the other way around and SK got to choose the side on all 3 maps, i bet that there would be hundreds of threads complaining about it, but since its SK lets just look the other way. regardless of the teams playing a team should never be able to choose side on all maps of the series, the X team pick map and Y team choose side with the knife round for decider has been used since forever and works just fine so no reason to change it.

Look for SK's first tournament with felps, they did good. Just because I hate SK doesn't mean I won't give them credit, but VP was clearly the better team here today. Plus, if it came down to knife rounds people would complain then too, because if their team never wins a knife round they will claim it's still unfair, like you just did. If you get to pick people will still complain. I don't really care, but you need to realise that if SK were truly good on the map then they would be able to have a good score regardless of which side they start on. It only makes sense... Or at the very least they should be able to win the map on their preferred side. If they lose, then they lost fair and square, they can only blame themselves for not winning enough rounds, because they simply did not do good enough. Attack me all you want, but VP deserved this win and SK did good but they weren't the best team playing today, VP was. End of story.

"clearly the better team here today" not sure about that, if wasn't for that TaZ 1v2 4hp clutch when VP was about to be broken i'm pretty sure that SK would take it. btw the only reason on why i'm complaining its because its not usual seeing knife rounds for first and second map, usually Y team picks a map and X teams picks the side, and they think that knife rounds are so irrelevant that they wont even show it on screen but knife rounds can be huge while you get to start at a favorable side.

Well when SK lost to Taz in that situation, well they can only blame themselves. Taz played that situation better than SK did and deserves to win the round. Hence why VP was the better team.

It would be unfair if the sides were picked randomly by your mom, picking balls of the glass bowl with a teams name on them. Until you find a better way to pick the sides, teach sk to knife better.

there is a better way to pick sides you dumb fuck, the way that most of tourneys do it, if you choose the map the enemy team will choose the side, with knife round for the decider map, its simple and fair.

because Knife rounds are the most random thing? knife rounds are so random that they don't even show it on stream and the outcome of those rounds can have huge effect at a match, i'm just being reasonable. dreamhack should have done like all the other tourneys and let the team that didn't choose the map pick the side and knife if needed for decider that would be the better way that they could do it which is fair for both teams.

If you win 6 knife rounds its a slight suggestion a given team is just good at it. Anyway, have fun with your problems kiddo.
2017-02-20 08:15
Perhaps if they won it 6 time in a row it has something to do with their knife skills? It's exactly like saying : "SK won 4 pistols round in a row but pistols round are totally random" : perfect nonsense. I guess u never played competitive cs to claim that knife is random.
2017-02-21 03:21
Expect they didnt get to just "choose". Both sides played a knife round with the exact same health. DH didnt just say "OK VP NOW DID EVERYTHING SO U HAVE THE ADVANTAGE SO SK WILL LOSE". Also dont give me that most tornys do it a certain way shit, cuz this torny dont have one 2 min timeout and coaches always being able to communicate, but u dont talk about that because those helo SK rather then hinder them, and they much more influencely on the game theb a knkfe round

Dude, if you go back and look at this post you'll see how stupid you sound. Hopefully. If you need a little help, here. "Clearly the better team here today." Not sure about that taz..." who is on the team that won! Then you go on to talk about that individual play like it proves your point. It doesn't, in fact it makes you look very dumb. VP were the better team today, I know because they won. If SK had one, they would have been the better team. Do you see how that works?
2017-02-20 15:18
This makes no sence considering that SK won VPs map...they would have the same sides for the maps they won
2017-02-20 19:19
This is a flawed theory, as almost all maps have an inherent CT advantage.

If you think that the reason SK lost is due to them not getting to choose sides then you are fking retarded, you should obviously be able to play both sides well whether or not you start on the favourable side. If you simply don't play one side as well as the other team then you don't deserve to win.

so basically you are saying that choosing sides give no advantage at all? are you that dumb? let me give you an example, lets say that there's 2 teams with about the same amount of skill at NUKE, X team starts at CT side and they get 11 rounds, then Y team starts on CT side down 11-4, Y team will be playing under the pressure of being behind which will for sure effect on how they will play the half, because they know that they can't make mistakes, they may not do the agressive plays that they would if they started on the better side. that's why i think that letting a team choose side on all 3 maps is completely bullshit.

No, can you fucking read? Of course it can have an impact but saying SK simply lost due to the fact that they didn't get to choose on the favourable side is fucking retarded, just like I said. It can have an impact but the reason that you lose is due to the fact that the other team played better than you, you still have the exact same chance to do the same thing as your opponents did when you switch sides. And if the fact was that getting to choose sides was extremely favourable then SK should've simply won more knife rounds, I mean knife rounds are a bit random but still.

can you fuckin read tho? i never said that they lost because of that, i said that it was unfair and could have an effect in the way that they played. and again i already explained above on how it could effect a team, having your backs at the wall while you're playing from behind isn't the same thing as playing the better side while you are ahead. plus i just can't understand the reason on why would dreamhack make the 3 maps decided by knife rounds and not even show it on stream if the old system that has been aplied to pretty much every tourney was working just fine.

Yea, i didn't see the Nuke part since you edited it in. I didn't take what you wrote in as ''it could've had an impact'' ''VP got to choose side on 3 out of 3 maps, not to mention all the luck plays that they had on Mirage feel like Sk got robbed there'' That sounds like the reason SK lost and got ''robbed'' was due to luck plays and not getting to choose sides, not that it ''could've'' had an impact. And its not like they got to choose sides for no reason, they simply won all the knife rounds so they deserved it. And I don't see the argument here of starting on favourable side having such a big impact, especially since even though VP started on the favourable sides they had pretty poor sides and came back on the less favourable one, so how the hell is that a solid argument for how it was ''unfair'' They got 5, 9 and then 7 rounds on the favourable sides and mananged to play really solid on the other side to win. It would've been a different story if they got 11-12 rounds each time but It is still 100% fair imo because each team have the same chances and these are top level teams who should have the ability to do comebacks on the favourable side, its not like some tier 3 team who just gives up on the game after they're down 7 rounds after the first half and move onto the favourable side, a part of being an amazing team like these two is having the ability to not give up and continue to fight whatever the scoreline is.

no, its not 100% fair, teams should be playing at exactly same conditions, there shouldn't be a way for a team to be able to choose sides on all maps of a series, plus VP also got to choose the sides on all maps that they played against Astralis in the semi finals, idk how people still think that it was fair.

They don't ''get to'' choose sides, they win the knife rounds. The knife rounds are not a coin flip, if the teams also thought the knife rounds were so damn important then maybe they should implement tactics into them. Maybe that is what VP has done and therefor they win all these knife rounds and do deserve to choose sides, how about that? They do have the same conditions, getting to play as many rounds at the opposite team on each side = 100% equal, its just this ''momentum'' thing that is implemented that make you think that it has a huge impact, the teams (not any that I know of, just you who brings it up as a big issue) who struggle to win as many rounds as their opponents on the favourable side just because they're down should work on fixing that issue in their heads rather than blaming that the other team had ''momentum'' after first side and therefor won because if they do not play as well on each side as their opponent they do not deserve the victory and this momentum thing is something that is in your head and not a part of it being a fair game or not, if its an issue for you then its up to you to fix it.

" The knife rounds are not a coin flip, if the teams also thought the knife rounds were so damn important then maybe they should implement tactics into them" teams don't need to practice knife rounds because like i already said a thousand times but it seems like people on this forum doesn't know how to read THIS ISN'T THE SYSTEM USED IN MOST TOURNEYS, USUALLY THE TEAM THAT PICKS THE MAP DONT GET TO CHOOSE THE SIDE there i pretty sure that you can see it now. plus playing with momentum is a huge thing, even the most experienced teams out there crumble when the enemy team has the momemtum, just look at the Astralis vs GODSENT match at the major, doesn't matter if its something that is in your head, it still an disadvantage, that's the main reason on why there's knife rounds or other rules on which team chooses the side, because if choosing sides wasn't a big deal like you said then tournament organizers would just let teams choose side at the map that they picked and do a knife round for decider.
2017-02-20 08:02

there should not be a knife round, VP won all knife rounds, how is that even close to fair? choosing a side on a map can have huge effect on the outcome of that map, and VP choosed their favorite side on 3 out of 3 maps.

sk lost because vp won the knife rounds really isnt that what this game is about? if u want to have the right to choose - win its completely fair for me if the team choosing the map has the right to also choose the side, how would that be fair? if there would be only one knife round and with the maps teams would change that wouldnt be fair too what is not fair about getting the right to choose, when won? when u flip a coin and u win u can choose, when u are better skijumper u can jump later, thats how it works lol if u got any problem with that, boycott the dreamhack and every other tourney lol oh as b0cuit pointed down there, the system where u pick the side on enemy map is fine but even then there would be people who doesnt accept that, theres just no solution which everyone will be happy about

are you really slow or something? usually the team that chooses the map doesn't get to choose the side, it how it always have been in pretty much every tourney, if you pick a map the other team will pick the side and there will be a knife round for the decider.

whatever, that makes no sense u cant understand i wrote all the possible systems? and to be honest for me only the one where u have to do something to get the right to choose the side is correct? picking the side when enemy picked the map is ok too its been like that for years, if u got better idea, post it somewhere, send it, because i have none and knife system is fair enough for me win = choosing right when u practice cs u cant abandon pistol rounds, u cant abandon smokes, flashes, molotovs, u cant abandon knife rounds thats all
2017-02-20 07:34
go cry in your bed, if u wanna choose which side play, fucking win the knife round
2017-02-20 06:56
To be fair, SK was in the lead for 2/3 maps at half time, 10-5 on cobble and 8-7 on mirage. The fact they didn't win on the "favoured" side as you say it proves that VP was the better team lol. Stop crying.
2017-02-20 09:42
Thanks, Didn't know. Thought that the teams could pick sides on the enemy map. which is the system i like the most ...

You know VP won all knife rounds right? Nothing stops other teams from practising knife rounds. VP do it, and it pays off. SK had luck too, so they are even.

i already said that hundred times, having knife round for first and second map is just retarded because it can give teams huge advantages like what happened in this series, VP getting to choose side on all maps, the X team a map and Y team picks side with knife decider is the best way to do it and make sure that a team doesn't get to choose side on all of the maps.

It is what it is, so practicing knife roudns is best thing you can do. If you can't change it, better adapt. Otherwise you can keep complaining about everything.

why would they practice knife rounds if 99% of the tourneys have the system where the team that picks the map doesn't get to choose the side? that system is all about balancing things and making it fair, that's why i'm not sure why would DreamHack change it.

Don't get it... The system for the tourney is posted way in advance. So if you want to win you should do you best to perform good according to the system - hence practice knife rounds - LOL sounds obvious. Sure other tourneys may have different systems. How can you say that's not fair? Are VP specially gifted to win knife rounds - dunno best knife team in the world don't think so? Or did they just prepare better then other teams for this in particular that gave them the advantage. I think you are just salty AF - but SK did good in their first tourney with felps

TO be able to win knife rounds on tournaments that use it to define the side for winning team. It's enough of a reason to practice it, even if it's just 1%. Sometimes that ONE percent is decisive. Simple as that. I don't know why Dreamhack did that, but they did and you can't reverse it. The only thing you can do about it is practice knife rounds. That's it.
2017-02-21 20:36
agreed.. the same was against Astralis, i was at first shocked that VP kept starting CT. I get your point and I agree with it, but i dont believe these glory hunters you arguing with are going to accept a shit
2017-02-20 06:56
I couldn't find any response as this one in the topic. So that's why I giving it: If there wouldn't be knife rounds in this game (Only for decider), they would have still had the same sides on the maps they won. The only difference it would make, was on the map they lost. So based on that, please teach me how SK got robbed? I feel you are biased in this case, because imho it would have made 0 difference.
2017-02-20 11:27
SK used to be beast on mirage considered as even better team then VP after Katowice 2014 when VP shrekt 99% team LGB was only that won this map against them in overtime if im not wrong

Not really. Sk threw that 5v3 cold rushing b(then 3v2) and that 13-13 taz round. Im meant 12-7 in the ct side and they still managed to blow away. At least fallen was leading but taco.. Come on dude felps did a good job tho so sk will ok. Congratz to vp, that bad luck vs astralis in the major appears for sk today. Cs always give u another chance! Snax mvp by far

Ofc but that was at the started of a map usually. In the dangerous moments sk was unlucky and vp have that details to get an a advantage. Im meant that cold round was 13-7 or something like that in a ct side map.

lol, is just funny how people hate a team , when they dont do anything , but only the brazillians , they cant just hate some brazillians and keep loving sk... this community is really immature and childish...

Not sure if you can call this a rivalry if they can't trade win/losses, this is the forth time in a row VP beats SK, three semis and now this final: hltv.org/match/2305232-sk-virtuspro-esl-.. hltv.org/match/2305975-virtuspro-sk-epic.. hltv.org/match/2307547-virtuspro-sk-elea.. hltv.org/match/2307939-virtuspro-sk-drea.. If only FalleN delivered they would have won 2-1 or even 2-0 as he is a beast on Train (and the best in his team hltv.org/?pageid=173&playerid=2023&stats..), but he really underpreformed the whole tournment and this cost them the match, series and trophy. It's more like SK is starting to become (if it's not already) VP's "customer" like we say in Brazil. Hopefully we can see real FalleN in IEM, and if we do, I don't see SK losing to VP again. ps: Like I said in #147, even without FalleN they could have won, but that 26th round on Mirage where felps whiffed and lost the 1x2 cost them everything as well. In the end GG WP, gratz VP, they deserve it!

gratz VP! they are a funny team. it doesn't matter how they play online, it doesn't even matter how they play group stage. when the important games start, they slowly and painfully win the crucial rounds.

Yes of course. I watched them play as Pentagram with Kuben, Loord, and Luq when they hadn't won anything yet. In fact, they played with that lineup for quite a while without any achievements; dropping out in groups or first round of playoffs. Then suddenly they won a bigger tournament (cannot remember the name), and people thought it was a fluke. But they were there to stay and have been ever since.

It's so amazing and inspiring to see these old school legends stick together and still go at it, not only be competitive, but win titles also. Gotta love NEO, TaZ & the rest of the guys. Have a bitch to Valve about the money system being an overbearing game mechanic ? it artificially inflates or shifts momentum, as we saw in round 26 of Mirage. One single great play should not be worth the equivalent of SK win = would be 14-12 very very likely 15-12 (SK-VP) VP win = would be 13-13 very very likely 13-15 (SK-VP) An effective swing of 5 rounds ? or 2.5+/- ? some nerd can correct me but you know what I mean. It changes the whole finale of the tournament so much. Isn't it better to make more rounds equal and promote natural momentum instead of forcing it ? IMHO, the same old CS money system is a STUPID OUTDATED or possibly even BROKEN MECHANIC. You changed the game so much, molotovs and creative ways to use utility better.. the money system is tied to the level of depth in combat strategy. Inherently, it is tied to the game mechanics that were changed so significantly So changing it could make the game way better, use that BETA system. Less loss round levels that start higher would be so much better. Or raising the loss bonus regardless of consecutive outcome order, just the total rounds lost determines the bonus. Either would change the game drastically in some situations but be subtle most of the time. Do they consider the money system too fundamental to mess with ? maybe, but damnit WHY NOT LOOK INTO IT <3 please Valve

Really was, these teams and Astralis aren't sitting around enjoying their advantages. The constant effort to be better is obvious, so much respect for all players on both teams VP gotta be still pouring champagne on TaZ though, right ? my jaw dropped when he took that 1v2 duel like a BOSS. Could rant about the economy causing such gay momentum inflation, crushing SK and showering VP with benefits, but eh.. it was just such an amazing moment that I thought was quite shocking ? Almost didn't believe it was really happening ;) good on you TaZ ! old gamers never die, if you want it bad enough and you push yourself in every way to be the best, you can be the best. Fucking awesome job VP.
