Na`Vi to playoffs over FaZe
Natus Vincere are the last team to qualify for the DreamHack Masters Las Vegas playoffs after beating FaZe in three maps. They won Mirage, lost Nuke, and won Train,16-11, to take the match.
After winning the first three rounds on Mirage on the terrorist side, Natus Vincere were off to a flying start. The CIS side were then able to follow it up, winning the first gun round with a simple B execute that the FaZe were unable to defend against.
The eco went well for FaZe, as the European combine were able to get it all the way down to a 1v1, but it was finally Denis "seized" Kostin who was able to take Aleksi "allu" Jalli down to increase their advantage to 5-0. Finally, though, FaZe were able to neutralize Na`Vi to get themselves on the board on their second buy round.
FaZe were unable to follow it up, though, as a great lurk by seized killing two and Ladislav "GuardiaN" Kovács winning the duel against allu crystalized the 2v3 in the seventh round, resetting the European team. After that, Natus Vincere started to run away with the map after resetting FaZe a second time in the eleventh round, ending the half with a 13-2 lead.
It seemed the map was about to be over after FaZe lost the pistol round, but three deagle kills by Finn "karrigan" Andersen during their eco allowed Null element were able to close the map out in the 22nd round, 16-6.
FaZe were able to bring it back in the second map
The second map started much the same way for Natus Vincere, as the CIS side was able to take an early lead on the CT side, 3-0, before FaZe were able to get on the board. With a 3-1 scoreline, Egor "flamie" Vasilyev was able to outplay Håvard "rain" Nygaard in a 1v1 situation to reset FaZe.
In a heartbeat, Natus Vincere were ahead 6-1, with FaZe still scrambling to put a full buy together. From thereon out, FaZe started chaining rounds together and were able to bring it back to 6-4. A 2v1 clutch by Oleksandr "s1mple" Kostyliev was able to cut the comeback short, but FaZe were able to overcome the setback and eventually take the lead, 8-7, into the half.
Keeping the momentum, FaZe were able to stop Natus Vincere in the pistol round, and increased their lead to 10-7 before losing the first gun round.
Round after round, Natus Vincere were able to turn it around and take the lead for the first time in the second half in the 23rd round, 12-11. FaZe immediately fought back, though, and kept their options in the match alive by winning 16-13 and taking it to the third map, Train.
Na`Vi took it in the third map
For a third time in a row, Natus Vincere were able to win the first pistol round of the map, this time on the CT side. FaZe replied quickly, though, taking the second round and forcing the CIS team on a forcebuy.
With 3-1 in favor of FaZe on the scoreboard, Natus Vincere were able to stop an A execute to keep the game within one. With 4-3 on the board for Natus Vincere, s1mple was able to stop a late outside push killing two and dinking the last player to give his team the round.
Down by one, a huge triple by Joakim "jkaem" Myrbostad stopping a defuse got FaZe back even to 5-5 on the tenth round. After a tight start, FaZe started to take the lead, and eventually took nine rounds on the terrorist going into the last half of the match.
Natus Vincere weren’t about to give up, though, as four glock kills by s1mple cleared the way for the CIS team to take the first round of the second half. Natus Vincere were then able to follow it up in the first gun round to take the lead, 10-9, for the first time since the beginning of the map.
FaZe were finally able to win their first round on the CT half as all the CT players won their duels not allowing Na`Vi to execute onto the A site, causing the CIS team to call their timeout. The moment to talk seemed to pay off, as Natus Vincere went on to win their 12th round with a late play on A, putting FaZe into an economic bind.
Having been able to establish a 14-10 lead after the ecos, Natus Vincere were successfully able to bring it to match point after flamie beat allu in a 1v1 after plant situation. Finally, Natus Vincere were able to close the map and match out, 16-11.
Key Moment: The key moment came in the third map, on the 22nd round, with 11-10 on the board. Na`Vi slowly rotated to A late in the round and broke FaZe’s defenses and their economy for the rest of the map.
PotM: Denis "seized" Kostin was named player of the match for his contribution in key plays on both Mirage and Train, and having a team-high 12 multi-kills in those two maps.
