pyth: "Cache got decided early"
Jacob "pyth" Mourujärvi gave us an interview about NiP's affair with Cloud9, being able to reset after the beating they took on Cobblestone, the round restart on Cache, and the strengths of the SG553.
Ninjas in Pyjamas secured themselves a place in the quarter-finals with a 2-1 win over Cloud9 in Group C's decider, in which the Swedes lost Cobblestone 2-16 before clinching Train comfortably and closing the series on Cache.
pyth doesn't believe the restarted round had much of an effect on the match
We sat down with Jacob "pyth" Mourujärvi to talk about the best-of-three, especially what made them reset after losing Cobblestone in such a manner, as well as him using the SG553. He also touched on the round on Cache, where Cloud9 had a 3v1 advantage, which got replayed due to the server shutting down.
Losing Cobblestone 2-16, what do you think helped you reset and come back to win the next two?
I think it was our attitude after the game. We knew we were going to beat them and we just had the mental strength to be able to come back on Train. I think we had a lot of stupid rounds on Cobble that we shouldn't have lost, I think they also read us pretty well, we just ran into their molotovs. We played really bad, we talked after the game and we just had a mindset that we're gonna reset and just play our game and do whatever we practiced.
Disregarding the restart that happened on Cache, what were the keys to win the decider, which ended up being quite close?
I don't think [the restarted round] was a key round, I think the game got decided early as CT, where we got the momentum and got like seven rounds in a row, or eight rounds in a row. And then we won like six rounds in a row as T, so I don't think that round mattered that much, because I think we would've played differently on T side. We kinda choked in the end, but we came back and managed to win by some clutch plays.
I noticed you used the SG553 in a couple of rounds, can you tell me the reasoning behind that, the strengths the weapon has?
I think it's a really good gun, but every time I buy it, I always get flamed by teammates so every time I buy it, I say it's like a misbuy (laughs). But I really wanna use the gun, it's a really good gun. I just have to practice it more and will use it more.
Do you think it's situational, does it have its limits?
Yeah, I think it's very situational, on open maps for example, if you go out yard with the Krieg, it's really good. I don't think it's a really good gun for entry-fragging, if you run in first, but it's really good when you're like sneaky with it, play it more like an AWP, like a trade-fragger. It can be a good gun, but it depends on the situations.
