NiP through to playoffs over Cloud9

Ninjas in Pyjamas came from behind to beat Cloud9 2-1 and secure a playoff berth at DreamHack Masters Las Vegas (2-16 on Cobblestone, 16-6 on Train and 16-13 on Cache).

The series kicked off on Cobblestone, which was NiP's map pick, even though the final score would have suggested otherwise. Cloud9 got off to a flying start on the map and stormed into a 7-0 lead as NiP struggled to break through the Americans' defence.

The Swedish team called a timeout in an effort to halt Cloud9's momentum, but that did not help, with the scoreline blooming to a 13-0 advantage for the home side. NiP then finally managed to get a round on the board with a B execute, thanks to three fast kills from Richard "Xizt" Landström, but Cloud9 hit back right after to close out the half with a commanding 14-1 lead.

NiP then found a lifeline as they secured the pistol round courtesy of a trio of Dual Elites kills from Christopher "GeT_RiGhT" Alesund, but their comeback dreams would soon be crushed by Jake "Stewie2K" Yip, who picked up three kills with the Desert Eagle. With no money to work with, NiP would soon fall as Cloud9 locked down the map, 16-2, to take the lead in the series.

NiP through to the playoffs after a hard-fought match

Map two, Train, began with a strong T start from NiP, who got out to a 4-0 lead. Jordan "n0thing" Gilbert then gave Cloud9 their first round of the game with a trio of kills near the e-box, with Timothy "autimatic" Ta following it up with three frags of his own in the following round.

Cloud9 put together a small rounds of rounds and even took the lead, but then NiP came back into the game and won five rounds in a row to end the half with a 9-6 lead.

Now playing on the CT side, NiP were far too hot for their opponents, winning seven rounds straight to win the map, 16-6, and take the series to Cache.

Cloud9 came into the final map with fire in their bellies as they won the first six rounds to put NiP in danger of getting blown out. Xizt then picked up a trio of kills in middle to power NiP to win their first round of the map, with GeT_RiGhT following suit with three kills during a flank attempt in the next round. That was the start of a great run from the Ninjas, who would string eight rounds together before Cloud9 took the final round of the half.

Skadoodle put in big numbers, but it was not enough for C9 to win

NiP picked up where they left off and won the first three rounds on the Terrorist side. After a break due to technical issues, the Swedes further increased their lead by taking the next three rounds. Cloud9 then finally put their foot down to hold back the Swedish team, winning six of the next seven rounds, but two fast headshots by Patrik "f0rest" Lindberg in a 2v2 situation killed off the Americans' dream of taking the game to overtime.

Key Moment: Patrik "f0rest" Lindberg's 1on1 win against Jordan "n0thing" Gilbert on Cache in the eighth round. NiP had just won their first round of the map and would have to face a hard reset if the North American had pulled off the 1v3 clutch

PotM: Patrik "f0rest" Lindberg was simply on fire on Train and Cache, winning several aim duels to rescue his team after a tough defeat on Cobblestone.

This is a scam. NiP going through with massively negative K/D after such a problem is ridiculous. But because of that they might keep together for more time and get humiliated 9 times out of 10 to weak teams.

But that negative k/d is the accumulated k/d over 3 maps, mostly from cobblestone.... remember, it doesn't matter how many rounds you win with, what counts is be the first to hit 16 rounds on each map... Getting back in the game after being crushed 16-2 on your own pick is really strong. Yes they were lucky with the round that was replayed, but in the end.... they got 16 rounds on 2 of 3 maps.... C9 didnt....

You are a fanboy from NiP but you know that last map was stolen. (i would have said the same if it was reversed and C9 benefited from that issue, it's completely not professional but yeah the game doesn't have a feature enabling a restart just before the crash). NiP would have lost that 1v3 90+% of the time, and the round restart to 0, so the advantage C9 had is completely denied and they have to fight some tilt because of that issue.

Yes NIP would probably have lost, BUT you can't know that. And therefor the round outcome couldn't be determined, hence the round was replayed..... sometimes the rules benefit you, sometimes they don't.

Yes, 90% of the time Friberg gets a kill and then dies and C9 win the round. However, you realise that if Nip lose that round, it's not that big an advantage for C9 because NiP can still fully rebuy into the next round with a 2 round lead (11-9). C9 reset their loss bonus and would have to rebuy into the next round with UMPs and Famases with low nade count. In that situation, if C9 lose the following round (12-9) with inferior weaponry, they're put on a double eco and straight up lose the map then and there (14-9). Either way C9 are in a horrible position and it would take a lot to win from there with a fragile economy on CT side.

The problem that C9 are in is that they still can't really drop n0thing because there are few adequate IGLs in NA and who would replace Shroud? I can't see Hiko staying at OpTic so maybe he could go back, but would he want to and would they realise that they need to drop Shroud. I think n0thing needs to saty for now.

first off, stewie is igling not nothing. C9 has to take a chance on someone like they did w/ stew. If they bomb out of groups at katowice, then i think a switch is inevitable; even with how reluctant c9 are.
2017-02-18 17:12
2 replies
Is Stewie fully IGL then? I know he went into the IGL role but I saw n0thing taking the reigns during a lot of the timeouts so I assumed he was calling for the tournament. Like you said though. C9 are long overdue in changing Shroud but he'll likely stay due to the money he generates through streaming. Kinda sad because I think C9 could really do something if they picked up someone else instead of Shroud. If it's not shroud to go, I think it should be n0thing. Such a difficult position that they've put themselves in.

most retarded thing ive ever read. first of all c9 doesnt know if nip goes a again, second of all nip knows where cloud 9 where playing from. third of all, nip isnt going to do the exact same thing. the players dont do exactly what they did before. fourth of all, aim is a factor u have to account for. just bcs they hit their shots before doesnt mean theyll hit them now. theres so many factors and when u spend a bit more time in the game. ull understand that.

Even though nip won, it just doesn't feel right. The problem with the rules is that if you take them literally, nip didn't do anything wrong, since theoretically friberg could have won the 1v3, even though that chance seems pretty small. If anything it's the admins to blame since they made the decision to restart the round, not the players
