EnVyUs triumph at WESG

EnVyUs dominated the WESG grand final against Kinguin, winning 2-0 (Train 16-5, Dust2 16-6) for the title and the biggest first-place prize in CS:GO's history, $800,000.

The grand final between Kinguin and Envy began on Train, where the Frenchmen got to play on the CT side at first.

With everyone sharing the weight, Envy got ten rounds on the defense and topped it off with a perfect Terrorist side for a dominating 16-5 scoreline.

EnVyUs dominated Kinguin on their way to the title

Dust2 followed with Vincent "Happy" Schopenhauer's squad picking up 10 rounds in the first half again, that time on the offense. Only conceding one round in the remainder of the match, Envy celebrated the victory at 16-6.

Talk about a lot of money, they took home the biggest prize ever in CS without beating a single tier1 team. Can't say this will happen ever again

biggest prize pool with only noob teams. chinese scene wanted the best but only got some ok teams + vp and envy. maybe they wanted tyloo to win and thats why not that good teams are there

That'd be completly dumb not to admit Tyloo has yet to prove itself as a top 15/20. And no good teams because of shitty roster rules ( all 5 players from same country )
2017-01-15 16:04
Knowing how the Chinese are that is a really accurate. Trying to give tyloo a free tournament win. Yet still fucked up

What a joke. They should have lost to Tyloo 1st then SS, but both of those teams did everything they could to hand nV the win, so they lost some aim and game sense by the end of the games.. nV luckiest team ever. Major qualifier draws included.

not to mention their major win at 2015, almost going out 0-2 in maps by the old G2. But barely winning on OT and then the third map. EnVyUs is the only team I've seen got away with so many things compared to any others

As well as the boost scandal in Overpass where they went to win the Major. When at the same map, THEY also did a pixel'd boost but was not as game breaking as the fnatics one. These fcking cunts are lucky af.

the difference, NiP got "lucky" rounds against teams like VP and fnatic. EnVyUs got it against underdogs such as TyLoo and SS.

There's no "should have" in match results. Tyloo could have won, but they didn't, so they shouldn't have. Same deal for SS, or for any other team/player in any other tournament in any history of any sport.

but CS isn't that's why teams like Godsent or North didn't even attend WESG finals and why NA teams preferred EPL over PEA because they care more about competition and prestige than money

money > prestige ; we're not talking $50k, it's freakin $800k ! any team to miss up an opportunity like this is dumb af (e.g. godsent)
2017-01-15 16:03

that's obviously not the case for many pro players they just have different priorities than you I'm glad not everybody is money thirsty
2017-01-15 17:44

it's not like the events happened at the same time. EnVy still have a whole week until the major and have had enough time since the major qualifier in December to pracc for it. so you can either >pick up ez 800k and go to Atlanta in 7 days, with the same chance you've had w/o attending wesg >decide 5 days in China is detrimental to your practicing, so go all in at the major because you are ashamed to be rekt by teams like pride, rogue, etc and hide behind the "prestige" argument. quite arrogant imho but you're right - everyone should have their opinion i just don't see how 5-8 days of practicing is better than 800k. if it were one event vs the other, then i'd call nV money-thirsty. this way i just think they're smarter.
2017-01-15 17:55
5 replies
As I said it just seems that they (Godsent and North especially) don't care about the money that much and prefer to perform well at the major. And most of the tier 1 teams didn't even bother participating in the qualifier at all even if it was the biggest price pool ever and preferred playing in events with smaller price pools and way tougher competition. Why did they do that? because money really isn't that important for many pro players, it is more about the passion for the game.
2017-01-15 18:02
4 replies
yeah i understand that, but honestly if you were on a team like nV or Godsent, how would you approach this? I mean, a week more of practice doesn't guarantee you will perform well. if it did, godsent would have never lost to pride. Winning a tournament gives some confidence, that could be even more important than practice for experienced teams that are going through a rough patch. and 800k right off the start of the year gives you leverage not to worry about the money aspect for the rest of the season. so you can be more relaxed at the major. i think you can go for both money and prestige in this particular situation, thats all I'm saying. you just need to plan out your praccs better, use free time more efficiently. I've got respect for players who want to be the best, not the richest. if it were not like that, there would be no real competitive cs. but i fail to see why so many teams quit on wesg. then again, I'm no professional player.
2017-01-15 18:20
3 replies
yeah I would maybe go for the easier money too and I don't think that nV are money thirsty or something it is totally legitimate to try the get some ez money but I think pro players and many other world class sportsman think differently than most other people. they wouldn't be able to get to the absolute top with some special kind of dedication for their sport. that's more than just money I just think it is nice to see that money is not everything for them and that is more than just a job for them
2017-01-15 18:47

fair, i agree with that. i guess I'm just still baffled by how big CS has gotten to make a $1.5m event seem virtually irrelevant. crazy

Nice venue? Are you joking? I went to spectate on Saturday and there was literally nothing there apart from the stage area - which seated way less than 5000 people. Add to that there was only ONE CS match on the stage the whole of Saturday and that it wasn't possible to go watch the other games anywhere else at the venue I'd say it was pretty fucking terrible.

Uhm i dont follow csgo very active lately, can someone explain, why there is 800k for the first place? I mean thats massive and then i see the teams which took part and think "lel what" ...to see space soldiers and kingiun in top 4 is enough to know that was a t2-3 event, yet it has the biggest $$$$$ in the history of csgo xD

China's trying to do some CS:GO stuff, bringing huge amount of money. But w/o solid t1 teams and w/o worldwide streams it seems strange. Maybe they trying to promote CS:GO at local market and make money from 238575046426 chinese people, dunno.
